How Uzhgorod residents were reading “human books” (PHOTOS)

On December 1, the library turned into a modern and comfortable space for communication. In the format of "human library", within the XIII Travelling International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights Docudays ua, the Student Self-Government "Korzo" organized in the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library the campaign "Human Rights: A modern vision." Other organizers of the event were the Education Department of Uzhgorod City Council, the NGO "Youth Self-Government "Insider", Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library and the NGO "Vested".

In the "Human Library", you could choose from the catalog a "human book" with an interesting life experience and ask them various questions. And the readers had a chancce to talk to "books" of different genres.  Boris Kondratiuk, social activist, the chairman of the NGO "Transcarpathian community," Valentin Sokyrko, social worker of the BW "Transcarpathian Charitable Society Network of People with HIV / AIDS", Ivan Beletsky, participant of the ATO, Angela Babkina, IDP, representative of the NGO "Donbas-Transcarpathia", Ivan Szabados, the president of the local branch of the network ELSA – European Law Student Association in Uzhgorod, Hennadiy Stepanov, IDP, co-founder of the NGO "My Transcarpathia", Ferenc Milyo, social activist, Oleksandr Onischuk, volunteer of the Center "New Life", Yuriy Opalenyk, lawyer of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Natalia Korol, a student of the grade 11 of the school №7, the chairman of the sports committee of the student self-government of Uzhgorod "Korzo", Maria Mendzhul, the coordinator of the XIII Travelling international documentary film festival on human rights Docudays ua, Vladislav Tovtyn, chief specialist of the main territorial Department of Justice in Transcarpathian region.

After talking, the participants watched the film by Serhiy Lysenko "Language". It is a film about the activists, who bring book fairs, hold meetings with writers and organize free courses to learn Ukrainian language in the East and South of Ukraine.

Also, on the occasion of the World AIDS Day, members of the student self-government were handing all guests red ribbon symbols.

"Today I attended the event "Human Book" and I had an incredible experience. I want to thank all the people who acted as "human books". After talking with them, I learned a lot of new things, they were honestly answering my questions, smiling. Thank you for all the emotions", – Miroslava Hushnyk, a student of 9-A form of the school №19 shared her impressions.
