How Transcarpathian librarians conquered the Goverla… (Photo)

On the National Librarian Day, workers of the Transcarpathian Regional Science Library decided to conquer the highest peak of Ukraine – the Goverla.

Rakhiv met our library company with rain, fog and air temperature of + 8 °C, but that did not diminish the enthusiasm and determination to conquer the mountain. It was decided to ascend to the top, regardless of the weather conditions.

So the next day, librarians woke up early at 4.30, and drove four hours through wild fir forests to the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. This time, the weather was favorable, and then the climbing began… The group of 20 persons headed off together to the set destination with the main mission – to bring the flag of the library and set it up on the Goverla and to organize bookcrossing for tourists climbing to the top.

Cold wind, damp fog and piercing frost only reinforced the desire to complete the task. Over 1.5 hours of the ascend, they enjoyed the incredible mountain views. And finally, here it is – a long dreamed, the highest mountain peak of Ukraine. With shouts of "Glory to Ukraine!" the company ran to the top feeling no pain and fatigue.

The flag of Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library named after F. Potushnyak was set up during the solemn choral performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine by the librarians of the main regional library. Books for bookcrossing were delivered to the Ecological center "At the foot of the Goverla." We sincerely hope that they will be useful to tourists hiding from showers and thunderstorms in this center.

But emotions and moments captured in the photos will tell about the climbing better than any words.
