How to identify stolen timber?

The main signs of illegally harvested timber are:

1. The absence of tags (markings) on the timber;

2. Damaged tag (perhaps re-used);

3. Absence of appropriate papers for the timber. There must be a consignment note for the supply or transport of the timber printed on thermal paper. A printed consignment note should bear QR-code and the FSC seal.

4. Expired period of the papers;

5. Grade of the timber being transported not matching that specified in the documents.

6. Transportation of timber as full-length or half-length logs.

What to do if you suspect that the timber being transported was cut illegally:

1. Check the legitimacy of the product by tags. To do this, go to the site http://www.ulk.gov.ua/ and enter the tag number. If the search engine informs that the number of the tag is not found, these products must be further checked to establish their origin. Such check can be also be done by sending SMS at 8668 (instructions for sending messages can be found on the mentioned website).

2. Report to the hotline of the Transcarpathian Regional Forest and Hunting Range Administration +38 (0312) 64-44-15 or hotline State Agency of forest resources at +38 (044) 235 77 24.
