The seminar ‘Cultivation of dessert apples by means of disease-resistant sorts’ was held in Uzhgorod yesterday, July 24. The event was organized by Peyter Kavashshi – a founder of the Hungarian company ‘Holland Plant Ukraine’, which has been successfully working in the village of Storozhnytsya in Uzhgorod district for 9 years. He invited farmers from all over Ukraine to get acquainted with methods of work and range of seedlings, which implements the enterprise.
Kharkov, Odessa, Vinnitsa, Khmelnytskyi farmers responded at the invitation. They talked to each other and with Hungarian colleagues who shared their experiences for 2 days.
Anatoii Chornyi from Bukovyna confirmed information that Transcarpathia has great prospects in cultivation of apples. He also grows apples, but admits that the land is better in Transcarpatia and climatic conditions are more suitable.
Farmers were also shown the fields where seedlings are grown, in particular, new sorts that were bred selectively so that they are more resistant to diseases. By the way, such plants cost 20 to 40 hryvnia per unit in Transcarpathi while in Western Europe the same and sometimes even worse ones, are sold for 4-5 euro.
