On Saturday, June 16, an elegant performance took place in the Palanok Castle in Mukachevo.
For the second time, the wedding of the ruler of the Palanok – the legendary Countess Ilona Zrinyi – and the leader of the Hungarian rebels Imre Thokoly was reenacted there. There was music, dancing and knight tournament organized by the Club of Historical Reenactment "The Order of Saint Nicholas".
This marriage, that was made in June 15, 1682, changed the history of these lands and became legendary. Ilona Zrinyi, the widow of Ferenc Rakoczi and the mother of Ferenc Rakoczi II, the national hero of Hungary, was a prominent figure in the history of Europe, as well as the famous defender of the Palanok castle, which is known to have never been conquered by enemies. And today, the knights will test the strength of the fortress.
Because, on Sunday, June 17, the "assault on the fortress" will take place – an impressive spectacle involving knight teams, one of which will be attacking, and the other one will be defending the stronghold. The beginning of the armed assault is scheduled for 15.00, and the duration will depend on the combat situation… You still have time!
