How the OSCE commissioner inspected a school in Uzhgorod

The OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Lamberto Zanier today during his visit to Transcarpathia inspected the Uzhgorod Specialized Secondary School with an in-depth study of the Slovak language, the press service of the City Council informs.

Teachers of mathematics, labor studies, biology, who teach at the school No. 4, conducted presentations about their classes, in particular in the form that for 2 years has been participating in the all-Ukrainian experiment "Formation of Multilingualism of Children and Students: Progressive European Ideas in the Ukrainian Context". As part of the experiment, then the 5th, and now the 7th form was selected for bilingual education, where during a lesson children and teachers use two languages.

The head of the school, Maria Fedynets, said that they had conducted a survey a certain time after the launch of the experiment, and the children, their parents and teachers unanimously called for the continuation of the experiment, since they believed that the development of multilingualism would subsequently help the school graduates to successfully fulfil themselves both in Ukraine, and in the EU states. In addition, this model fully meets the requirements the most discussed Article 7 of the new Law "On Education", since students learn all subjects in both the state Ukrainian language and the language of the national minorities – Slovak.
