How the Mukachevo Palanok castle was taken by storm (PHOTOS)

History that comes to life. Mukachevo castle of Palanok reenacts the most interesting events of its past to entertain Transcarpathians and tourists.

Last Saturday, June 16, the wedding of the legendary ruler of the Palanok Ilona Zrinyi was reenacted there. And the next day, on Sunday – there was assault on the middle courtyard of the fortress.

The battle took place in the second half of the 15th century, when the Hungarian king Matias I recruited the peasants. They were defending the Palanok from the attacks of the barons. However, inexperienced commoners were defeated by knights in armor.

Peasants with halberds, knights with swords, skillful archers and a historic cannon for 7 cannonballs… In the spacious middle courtyard of the Palanok castle, surrounded by its strong and tall walls, the battle, recreated by the Club of Historical Reenactment "Order of St. Nicholas", looked spectacular. The audience could participate in the battle themselves. The castle was appropriately decorated, beautiful medieval ladies invited to join historical dances, and knights were fighting with swords…
