How dog teams worked at the Transcarpathian customs

The Transcarpathian Customs of the State Customs Service has 7 dog teams to search for drugs, two of which are also trained to search for tobacco products; 2 teams to search for weapons; 5 teams to search for tobacco products, one of which is also trained to search for amber.

Thus, in the first half of 2020, dog teams detected 20 cases of carrying narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, 1 case of carrying illegal weapons, 3 cases of carrying hidden tobacco products. In general, from January through June this year, customs officers detected 6 cases of illegal transportation of weapons across the customs border of Ukraine. 3 reports on illegal actions containing signs of the crime under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine have been sent to law enforcement agencies.

For reference: Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives. 1. Carrying, storing, acquiring, transferring or selling firearms (except smooth-bore hunting weapons), ammunition, explosives or explosive devices without a statutory permit – shall be punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to seven years. 2. Carrying, making, repairing or selling daggers, Finnish knives, knuckles or other melee weapons without a statutory permit – shall be punishable by a fine of up to 50 tax-free minimum incomes or community service for a term of one hundred and twenty to two hundred and forty hours, or arrest for for a term of three to six months, or restriction of liberty for a term of two to five years, or imprisonment for a term of up to three years.
