Hot season of visa-free travels starts: are border guards ready for it?

On June 11 – the "launch" of visa-free regime – the hot season for Transcarpathian border guards starts. Many travellers are going to pass through the most western region, which is bordered by four countries, the zak.depo writes.

Transcarpathian border guards predict how much more work they going to have. The figure is considerable: passenger and transport flow across the border is expected to increase by one third. "We maintain contacts with the migration service and know how many biometric passports are issued daily. This allowed us to predict the average increase of the flow – 30%", – says head of the Chop border guard detachment Serhiy Bilyavets says.

The chief of Chop border guards says that they are ready for such an influx at the border, the checkpoints for car, railway and pedestrian crossings are equipped with new technical means of border control.

"We have prepared a reserve of border guard personnel in case there is a sharp increase in passenger and transport flow. We are ready that in the early days there may be some problems, but we plan to cover everything in the media so that citizens traveling abroad know what they should pay attention to," – the head of the Mukachevo border detachment Ruslan Dudarev said.

As to the possibility of long queues, which would often occur on the border even before the introduction of the visa-free regime, border guards rely to the wonders of technology, because the human work is minimized.

Border guards promise to take into account additional nuances – for example, passengers with small children or pregnant women will be served first.

Border guards assure: even if problems arise, they will be resolved as soon as possible.
