The defense of Luhansk airport lasted nearly five months. The defenders of the airport did not surrender even in blockade, and after their retreat, the enemy found only ruins. The images of those terrible events were shown today to all, who came to the regional military commissariat in Uzhgorod, to the ceremony of awarding of the 128th Brigade and the 15th Battalion with the medal "For Defense of Luhansk airport" organized by the All-Ukrainian Union of Combatants.
61 Transcarpathian Heroes were honored with awards, 12, unfortunately, posthumously.
Transcarpathian Regional Deputy Military Commissar Petro Marko presented four awards "Combat volunteer of Ukraine." Two participants of the ATO were awarded with the medal "Army General Margelov," and ten soldiers received the badge "Participant of the ATO."
The ceremony finished with a prayer for those who died defending their homeland in Donetsk and Luhansk regions
Uzhgorod Mayor Bogdan Andriyiv wrote on Facebook: "I want to thank soldiers, who defended and continue to defend our country against the aggressor. I bow my head to the relatives of the fallen heroes for having raised real warriors and patriots, we will always remember their feat. Many thanks to the volunteers who really helped our soldiers and continue doing it now. I assure you that I will do everything in my power for our Heroes, my door is always open for them. Eternal memory to the fallen heroes! Glory to Ukrainian army! Glory to Ukraine!"
