Over the past two years, about 500,000 foreign Hungarians have received the citizenship in Hungary. According to Ukrinform, this was announced by the Minister of the periphery development of Hungary Sándor Fozekash.
Overall, since January 3, 2011, Hungarians from over 30 countries have received Hungarian citizenship. According to the latest data of the Ministry of Administration and Justice of Hungary, over 50,658 Ukrainians have appealed to the Hungarian government requesting to grant them Hungarian citizenship under the simplified procedure. Also, 921 Ukrainian Hungarians we denied Hungarian citizenship, and another citizen of Ukraine was deprived of it.
Recall that on January 3, 2011, the procedure for obtaining Hungarian citizenship was simplified and shortened to 3-4 months. Foreigners who were nationals of Hungary until 1920 or in 1938-1945, speak Hungarian and pose no threat to national security are entitled to that procedure.
