Griboyedov street in Uzhgorod will not be renamed

Public hearings on renaming of Alexander Griboyedov street to Pochayivska street were held in the Uzhgorod City Council.

According to the chairman – the head of the city planning and architecture department Oleg Borshovsky, the City Council received from the head of the religious community an appeal signed by 107 Uzhgorod citizens with a request for renaming. According to the law, the announcement was posted on the official site of Uzhgorod City Council, in the newspaper "Uzhgorod", public discussions on this proposal were held from 25 of July to 25 of September.

At the hearing, the chief physician of the Uzhgorod City Central Clinical Hospital Ivan Kurakh spoke on behalf of 5 medical facilities located on Alexander Griboyedov street. If you rename the street, – Ivan Kurakh said, – all existing licenses, which are necessary for operations will become invalid. Therefore, Ivan Kurakh asked not to rename the street.

During the voting, the majority of those present at the hearing voted against renaming Alexander Griboyedov street.
