On Narodna Square in Uzhgorod, servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine in a formal uniform formed the guard of honour near the flagpole, the press service of the RSA informs. Then, representatives of various military, law enforcement agencies and rescuers lined up on the main administrative square of the region. To the sound of the State Anthem of Ukraine, the regional officials together with the servicemen raised the State Flag of Ukraine. After laying flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko, the procession with a 100-meter-long State Flag made up of representatives of the executive and local governments, European diplomats, clergy, residents and guests of the city marched from Narodna Square to Nezalezhnist embankment. The procession was led by the ensemble of drummers from Uzhgorod College of Culture and Arts. During the celebration, flowers were laid to the monument to the President of the Carpathian Ukraine Augustine Voloshin. From there, the procession marched to the pedestrian bridge to unite the two banks of the Uzh river with a 100-meter yellow and blue flag. The festive event symbolizes the consolidation of the Ukrainian people around the values of independence, sovereignty and unity of our state.

The highlight of this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Uzhgorod was a flower arrangement made of fresh flowers on Narodna Square. On a huge banner measuring eight by eight meters, florists laid out real chrysanthemums in the shape of the map of Ukraine, and the Transcarpathia is highlighted with colored flowers according to the flags of the national minorities. In addition, a flower trident was made, and a festive photo zone was mounted in front of the banner. The flower arrangement and the festive photo zone will stay there for the weekend. The celebrations continued in the Transcarpathian Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater with a concert program with the participation of creative and amateur groups of the region. The next three days for Transcarpathians will be days off.
