The draft agreement on the use of part of Slovakia’s airspace by planes landing and taking off at "Uzhgorod" International Airport was approved by the Government of Ukraine at its meeting, the Press Center of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration reported.
Until 2016, air navigation at the Uzhgorod airport was regulated by an international agreement, which was not renewed in time. In December last year, the content of a new agreement with the Slovak side was agreed. So far, Ukraine has gone through all the internal procedures required to sign the document.
For Transcarpathia, the resumption of the airport’s full operation is an important issue of economic development of the region. So far, planes can take off and land only during the day and in good weather. It is almost impossible to carry out scheduled air services in such conditions.
Today, the government stated that the support of national aviation and the development of regional airports are crucial. Uzhgorod airport has all the chances. The Ministry of Infrastructure is also considering the possibility of building an airport in Mukachevo.
