Gontareva promises to lift the ban on early withdrawal of deposits

The National Bank of Ukraine will soon abolish the restrictions on deposit withdrawals introduced last year.

This was stated by the head of the NBU Valeria Gontareva in an interview with the Bloomberg, the "LigaBusinessInform" writes.

According to her, this will be done after the measures for cleaning of the banking system are completed.

"It will be soon," – Gontareva said.

The head of the National Bank believes that without macro-economic stability, "cleaning" of the banking sector will not provide the desired effect.

"Only macroeconomic stability, only GDP growth, only really stable situation in the foreign exchange market will bring us real stability in the banking sector," – she said.

"I see light at the end of the tunnel – she said. – Thirty-five banks represent 85% of our banking system and the main work has been done to them."

She added that "the banking system is still bleeding, we are still losing deposits of individuals."

Recall, the National Bank of Ukraine on October 13, 2014 prohibited the early execution of contracts for deposits.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine Poroshenko said that the restrictions on individuals’ access to bank deposits may be abolished soon.

According to the President, as a result of effective dialogue of the government and the National Bank, they managed to stop the outflow of deposits.
