Recently, acts of fraud committed using mobile phones have become more frequent in Transcarpathia.Crooks call a victim under the guise of policemen and say that a dear person has committed a crime and has been caught by the police. Then they demand money to settle the matter. Gullible people give everything they have to strangers…  

    Last weekend, in the evening a pensioner from Svalyava received a call on her mobile from an unknown number. The stranger introduced himself as the police officer and told that the son of the woman had been arrested, and in order to have him released she had to transfer money in the amount of 3,000 UAH. The pensioner was told a bank account number, which she transferred the above amount to… Only a few hours later she contacted her son and, having realized that she had been deceived, the victim appealed to the police …

    A 27-year-old resident of Uzhgorod also almost became a victim of fraudsters. An unknown man called on her cell phone and said that her husband was going to be prosecuted. The stranger demanded to transfer him 8,000 UAH on the account number for releasing the husband. The woman called her husband, who was really out of reach. However, she waited with the money transfer, and when the connection with the husband finally appeared, she consulted with him what to do. Of course, the man was very surprised as no one was bringing to any criminal liability. His phone had been dead, and he at that time was on a business trip…
