Gas “torch” in Khust district occured due to soil subsidence – police

Currently, "human factor" is not considered as the cause of the incident, which occurred in Transcarpathia on January 1. At least, so says the police.

The pipe, in which gas got inflamed in a forest near the village of Horodylovo in Khust district, is a backup pipe. It was not used for the supply of gas to Europe.

This was informed by the PR department of Transcarpathian regional police. They reported:

In afternoon on January 1, the operator of Khust department of main gas pipelines reported to the police about gas explosion.

The investigative team was sent to the scene. It tuned out that in the forest, 3 km away from the village of Horodylovo in Khust district, a gas pipe had exploded and gas had started burining.

The cause of the accident on the pipeline was the depressurization of the pipe at a depth of 1 – 1.5 meters because of a soil subsidence.

This pipe is a backup pipe, it is not used for the supply of gas from Russia to Slovakia. By 15.30, the accident was localized, gas leak was stopped. There were no victims of the gas explosion.

A special commission is working at the scene.
