It has been a week since the end of the International Theater Festival "Monologues over the Uzh" organized in the regional center by the "Nedilya" newspaper and Uzhgorod city council. But the discussions of the shows on social networks are still going on. And no wonder, because during the 6 days of the festival, there were 12 performances by different theaters from different countries.
Uzhgorod fans were particularly anticipating the performance "Frida" by Tetyana Ivashchenko, which is a joint art project of the L. Kurbas National Center for Theater Arts and the SOLO Theater. In Uzhgorod, the show was sold out. Playwright Tetyana Ivashchenko wrote a play about the crazy story of love of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo to her husband Diego Rivera, who was constantly cheating on her, brought her to self-destruction, and only art could save her. Director Lyudmila Kolosovich produced the play for the stage. Frida was played by two actresses – Ulyana Lib and Olga Tikhonenko.
Playwright of the L. Kurbas National Center for Theater Arts Oleg Mykolaychuk-Nyzovets admitted that the festival in Uzhgorod is very democratic. “At other festivals, everything usually happens this way: do the show – go home. And here, we had the opportunity to see performances of our colleagues from other countries, and also to speak to students of Uzhgorod College of Culture and Arts. It’s so inspiring. And, of course, to see your beautiful city."
