Free bus rides for students in Uzhgorod may be cancelled

Next week, the executive committee of Uzhgorod city council may cancel free public transport for students: a draft decision, which will be considered at the meeting on Wednesday, July 13, provides for 2 hryvnia fare for students until 19.00 except weekends and holidays.

Recall that the decision of the city authorities on free public transport for students during school hours was taken in March this year when the bus fare was scandalously increased to 4 hryvnia. Then, one of the main "mitigating" arguments was the introduction of student cards, with which children can ride in buses for free.

As proposed by the draft decision, schoolchildren will be able to ride at half price – 2 UAH: "with 50% discount during the school year, every day until 19.00, upon presentation of a student card." These "benefits" will not apply on holidays, weekends and during school holidays.
