Former Soviet prisoners can apply for compensation from Germany

On May 21, 2015 German Bundestag adopted the decision that former Soviet prisoners of war should receive a symbolic financial assistance as compensation of the damage caused.
 

Soldiers of the Soviet armed forces, who were in German captivity as prisoners of war during the Second World War from June 22, 1941 to May 8, 1945, shall be entitled to a lump sum of 2,500 euros. The benefit shall not be paid to their heirs. Only the victim or his authorized representative can apply for compensation.

On the website of the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (BADV), there are application forms in German, English and Russian languages ​​and further information:

Applications in writing shall be sent to the said office: BADV, DGZ Ring 12, D-13086 Berlin.
Diplomatic missions of Germany around the world accept such applications and refer them further.
The deadline for summission of applications is September 30, 2017 – the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the city of Kyiv informs.
