Almost two-thirds of the Hungarians surveyed support the introduction of the euro and the replacement of the forint as soon as possible, according to a recent poll conducted by Pulzus Kutató using an innovative research application for smartphones, the MyHungary.Net reported.
65 percent of respondents gave a positive answer to the question: "Would you support the introduction of the euro instead of the forint as soon as possible?". The Treaty of Accession to the European Union stipulates that, over time, all Member States will have to adopt the single European currency, with the exception of the United Kingdom and Denmark, which refused to participate in the Maastricht Treaty. Hungary is one of the seven Member States that have not yet met the necessary conditions for the introduction of the euro.
Earlier, the Hungarian government has repeatedly stated its intention to join the euro, but the exact date and strategy are uncertain. In 2011, the government announced that it would have been a member of the eurozone by 2020, but currently neither the parliament nor the National Bank of Hungary is doing any negotiations on the procedure for the introduction of the euro in the country.
