According to the head of of the health care department of Uzhgorod city council Vasyl Reshetar, as of today, September 27, no new cases of meningococcal disease have been found. The last case recorded by doctors was on September 13.
To break the mechanism of the infection transmission, a number of preventive and disinfection measures were taken: wet cleaning of the classroom using disinfectants, multiple ventilation, exposure to UV radiation and germicidal lamps.
Epidemiologic examination at the infected persons’ place of residence and the school, where they study, was promptly organized.
Recall that that the incubation period of the infection is 2 to 10 days, and patients with obvious clinical signs of the disease (meningococcal nasopharyngitis, meningitis, meningococcemia) are only contagious for as long as the meningococcal pathogen stays in nasopharyngeal mucosa, particularly in the early days of onset.
