The booklet "Guide to the world of Braille" was presented today at the Uzhgorod City Council. The project "Let’s see!" is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) within the NGO Smart Point Uzhgorod’s initiative "Accelerator of important ideas".
The initiator of the project Marina Stashyna-Neymet told why is it so important to duplicate information, including names in institutions, government agencies, in Braille.
Uzhgorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv noted that the city authorities are making efforts to create a barrier-free environment and help people with disabilities. Their needs are taken into account both during road repairs and when installing ramps in buildings.
Marina Stashyna-Neymet thanked the City Council for cooperation, adding that, in addition to the guide, the project involves the installation of information boards in Braille in two public institutions – the city clinic and library.
It was reminded at the presentation that Braille is a writing system in which letters, numbers, punctuation marks and other symbols are made in the form of combinations of embossed dots and are read with fingers.
