Flu is coming to Transcarpathia

As the head of the epidemiological department Svitlana Oberemko informed, according to SI "Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases" in the next epidemic season 2012-2013 in Ukraine a circulation of influenza viruses A (H3N2) is expected, namely – new strain of A/Viktoriya/361/2011, which has not realized its epidemic properties in our country, as well as new for Ukraine strain of influenza virus B/Viskonsin/1/2010. 

Also, the possibility of circulating of influenza virus A/N1N1/Kaliforniya/2009 is not excluded, but its role in the epidemic process is secondary. 

All three of these strains entered the current seasonal influenza vaccine for the Northern Hemisphere for 2012-2013 season as recommended by the WHO for influenza vaccine manufacturers, namely:

 
– A/Kaliforniya/7/2009 (H1N1) – similar virus; 

– A/Viktoriya/361/2011 (H3N2) – similar virus; 

– B/Viskonsin/1/2010 – similar virus. 

It is recommended in pre-epidemic season of 2012-2013 to conduct vaccination on persons who are at risk of adverse effects of influenza in order to avoid complications and possible death. Influenza vaccination should begin in September-October 2012 – the press center of Health Department of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration reported.
