Flu incidence is going down, but measles is still raging in Transcarpathia

According to the head of the epidemiological surveillance and infectious diseases prevention department of the Transcarpathian Regional Laboratory Center of the MoH of Ukraine Victoria Tymchyk, the incidence of acute respiratory infections is gradually decreasing. Over the past week (from March 15 to March 22), 3,592 people applied for medical assistance. The number of appeals decreased by 5% against the previous week.

          In Volovets, Mukachevo, Beregovo, Irshava districts and the city of Mukachevo, an increase in the number of patients with ARI is observed, in other administrative territories, the intensity of the epidemic process is low.

        Over the past week, as of March 21, 63 cases of measles were registered in the region (against 52 in the previous week). The incidence has increased among adults and children under 1 year old. Among the infected people, children under 17 years old make up 67%, adults – 33%.  Measles is spreading among the non-vaccinated persons – 76% (48 of 63 patients) did not undergo immunization.

        16 cases were registered in Khust district, 10 cases in the city of Uzhgorod, 8 cases in Perechyn and 7 cases in Tyachiv districts.

        Since the beginning of 2019, 1,387 cases of measles have been registered in the region.
