This was announced by Hennadiy Moskal: "Because of a huge ice jam in Slovakia, there is a threat of flooding in Uzhgorod and Storozhnytsia".
Transcarpathia offered Slovakia its pyrotechnics teams to blow up the ice jam.
Ice drifting on the Uzh river, the remains of which are passing through Transcarpathia, stalled in the territory of neighboring Slovakia. As of 15.00 on Sunday (5.02), a huge jam of ice blocks formed with a total length of 5 kilometers.
– The ice jam begins near the villages of Likarivce, Pinkovce and Zagor in Kosice region (Slovakia) and ends near the village of Storozhnytsia in Uzhgorod district – Hennadiy Moskal said. – If Slovakia does not take urgent measures to unblock ice drift, the water level in the Uzh will rise rapidly and can flood part of Storozhnytsia and Uzhgorod.
The head of the Tisa Basin Water Management Administration Volodymyr Chipak went to Slovakia to examine the situation on the ground. If necessary, Transcarpathia at any moment is ready to send to Slovakia its pyrotechnics teams to blow up the ice jam. Constant monitoring of ice drifting in neighboring Hungary and Romania is also being carried out.
