First projects of new concrete roads in Ukraine may appear by the end of June

The first construction projects of new concrete roads instead of asphalt ones in Ukraine may appear by the end of June this year.

This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Andriy Pivovarsky, the UNIAN reported.

"If all goes well, first projects will appear in two months. They may be in a front-line zone and in port areas. In port area, a lot of grain is transported on vehicles, that do not quite meet the weight standards, and concrete road should withstand even the biggest loads" – Pivovarsky said.

Meanwhile, the head of the strategic development of roads and road transport department at the Ministry of Infrastructure Roman Khmil reported that the replacement of asphalt road surface with concrete would help to save 30% of funds.

As reported, in late February, the Ministry of Infrastructure proposed to study the feasibility of the construction of concrete roads, as imported components account for more than 70% in the construction of asphalt roads.

In addition, according to the Ministry, concrete roads have longer lifetime and their construction will allow to change the structure of expenditures towards the Ukrainian producer.
