The men were loading rebars and manhole covers into a Hyundai around 19.00, and a few minutes later the suspects were taken to the police station for further examination of the circumstances of the crime.
The problem of manhole cover theft in Uzhgorod has been relevant for many years. Now, about one hundred covers are missing in the city, and it is the fault mainly of such thieves, the city council assures. Lack of manhole cover is not only a threat to health and life of residents, but also a very real financial damage. Thus, the replacement of a cast iron manhole cover costs about 1,700 UAH, and the installation – about 200 UAH.
– Patrol groups of the State Protection Service will continue to be on guard and watch for such "businessmen", – the Head of the State Protection Service Office in Transcarpathian region Andriy Litovchenko said.
People must know that they will be held accountable for such crimes, and the several hryvnias that can be potentially earned by selling lids for scrap metal do not worth the severe punishment that they will incur.
