“Find hidden treasures of Mukachevo districts” – holidays of Transcarpathian orienteers (PHOTOS)

Winter school holidays for pupils of the "Tovarysh" orienteering club are taking place under the slogan "Find hidden treasures of Mukachevo district." Under the guidance of coaches, students make day trips to enchanting snowy outskirts of Mukachevo.

"It is difficult to train orienteers in the forest covered with a thick layer of snow – footprints give away a checkpoint location – members of the club say. – So while snow cover remains, we take hikes along scenic trails in the suburbs. We have already "conquered" the Lovachka – the highest hill near Mukachevo, located north of the city. The height of the mountain, according to the map is 306 meters, and the city center is at an altitude of about 126 meters, so this is a great place for outlook. When you stand on the edge of a steep snow-capped cone, at first you are filled with fear and strong emotions. But a wonderful view of the city and snow-capped peaks far away creates its indelible connection to the mountains. The view from the Lovachka was appreciated even by the Celts who, more than two thousand years ago, founded here a fortified settlement, oppidum, which is the largest of the discovered Celtic settlements in Ukraine.

 We have made guided tours to the castles of "Palanok" and "St. Miklos" and made a hike in a snow-covered forest to the abandoned mine in the former mining "capital" of Mukachevo – the village of Berezynka" – orienteers say.

The holidays in Mukachevo will last until the end of January, so young tourists plan to visit waterfalls Skakalo and Lavkivsky, the castle of Shonborns in the Beregvar tract…
