Fatal car accident in Transcarpathia: the driver was intoxicated

While driving along Nezalezhnist Street in Mizhhirya, a 34-year-old man ran over a pedestrian and disappeared from the scene. The victim died at the scene. The driver was found by the police and detained under Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine. The investigation has been initiated.  
The police are establishing the circumstances of the accident, which occurred in the town of Mizhhirya yesterday, October 26, around 7:30 pm. A pedestrian was killed in the car accident.  
Mizhhirya Police Investigation Unit, which arrived at the scene, found out that the driver of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, driving on Nezalezhnist Street, while making a overtaking maneuver, lost control, hit a pedestrian and fed from the scene. The victim, a 22-year-old resident of the village of Zaperedillya, died at the scene.  
The police quickly tracked down the driver and the vehicle. The car was driven by a 34-year-old local resident. He was detained at his place of residence, the car was parked in the yard of the house.  
The driver was in a state of intoxication, as evidenced by the test results of 0.94 ppm of alcohol in the blood.  
The investigators of Mizhhirya Police Department opened two criminal proceedings over violation of the traffic safety rules that caused the death of the victim: under Part 2 of Art. 286 and Part 3 of Art. 135 (leaving in jeopardy) of the Criminal code of Ukraine. 
The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.  
The choice of pre-trial restraint against the suspect is being decided. The car was seized and delivered to the police impond lot.  The investigation continues.
