On Saturday, April 11, the famous Transcarpathian smuggler Atilla "Doki" Horvat was killed in an accident in Rivne region.
According to police, the accident happened around 06:40 on the Kyiv-Chop highway near the village of Velyka Omelyana. The driver of a Mercedes-Benz C-Class exceeded speed limit, lost control and crashed into a bumper. The man died at the scene from the injuries.
The police did not disclose the name of the victim, but according to the Transcarpathian publication Mukachevo.net, it is Atilla "Doki" Horvat, a well-known smuggler in Transcarpathia.
He was called the organizer of the so-called "private border" in Transcarpathia, along the border with Hungary, which a large-scale contraband flow was going through.
In November 2017, security forces conducted a large-scale special operation in Transcarpathia, detained Horvat, and returned the land under the government control. In 2018, it became known that Horvat ws in a pre-trial detention center in Lviv. After a while, the Lviv Court of Appeal refused to arrest him and the smuggler was released.
