"One of the knights of Ukraine" – so they say about our countryman, the famous researcher of Ukrainian writing, printing, scientist, journalist, patriot Oleksandr Oros. On May 23, there will be a commemoration of the famous Transcarpathian.
May 23, 2015, at 15:00, in the Regional House of Culture of Trade Unions (Uzhgorod, Ruska st. 3), there will be the commemoration of Oleksandr Oros – known Transcarpathian researcher of origins of Ukrainian writing and printing, talented scientist and writer, a tireless fighter for Ukrainian statehood.
All his life, Oleksandr Oros was a fighter for the independence of the Ukrainian state. The son of a priest from Khust district, he was not enrolled in medical school because of political views. He received his degree in Lviv, defended his thesis for Candidate of Technical Sciences in Moscow. Young Oleksandr was arrested several times, in particular for condemning Soviet aggression on the territory of Czechoslovakia and systematic protests against the communist-fascist regime. In 1982, he was arrested for the second time and sentenced on charges trumped by the KGB. However, even with the advent of the Ukrainian independence, Oleksandr Oros was not rehabilitated. The judge, who sent him to prison, is still held in high esteem and receives letters of gratitude. The renowned Transcarpathian died on February 23, 2014 in hospital. in Kyiv and was buried in the "Calvary" cemetery in Uzhgorod.
