Executive authorities and the police connive at irresponsible parents – opinion

The majority of crimes committed by juveniles in Uzhgorod are committed by children living in disadvantaged and poor  families. This was reported by the City Prosecutor Ivan Shtefaniuk in an interview to the newspaper "Holos Ukrainy".

Currently, 347 families in difficult circumstances are registered in the city center of social services for families, children and youth. And their number increases, despite the social benefits provided by the state.

The State Bailiffs’ Service of Uzhgorod city district administration of justice currently has about 1,600 documents to implement the decisions of the courts to collect child support. The amount of debt in hundreds of them exceeds 2000 UAH, or is outstanding for over a year.

At the same time, the prosecutor believes that the indifferent attitude of some officials of the State Bailiff’s Service, MIA, executive and local authorities to provision of timely payment of maintenance condone this situation. For example, last year, 18 submissions to prosecute persons responsible for the evasion of child support were made, but none has been upheld.
