European experts will check the legality of the construction of windmills on the Polonyna Borzhava

The Berne Convention Committee supported the proposal to conduct an independent on-site examination in 2021.

This was reported by the Save Borzhava community. Kateryna Borysenko from the Ukrainian Environmental Protection Group filed a complaint to the Berne Convention.

Therefore, on Thursday, December 3, the Berne Convention Committee considered the construction of a wind farm on the Polonyna Borzhava in Transcarpathia.

The Committee heard speeches by the Deputy Minister of Ecology of Ukraine Iryna Stavchuk and Kateryna Borysenko from the Ukrainian Environmental Protection Group, which had lodged a complaint with the Berne Convention.

Environmentalists have shown that construction of this scale is a real threat to this natural area, and the ATS procedure was conducted with violations and does not provide real information about the impact on the environment.

Convention Secretary Ursula Sticker stressed that the Ukrainian government must adhere to the standards of the Emerald Network. All participants unanimously supported the proposal to conduct an independent on-site examination in 2021.
