Europe believes the law on languages will split Ukraine – Speaker

The following weeks Verkhovna Rada is not going to consider a bill of deputies from the Party of Regions Sergey Kivalov and Vadim Kolesnichenko on language policy in Ukraine, said the Speaker of Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn.

"So far it is not in the project for the next plenary week, there haven’t been any proposals yet. There are political demands, it is true, but they haven’t led to a practical introduction yet", – Lytvyn said on air of "Channel 5", reports Zakhid-net.

"This issue is so delicate, and it always appears at the political campaigns", – said the parliament’s speaker, adding that he does not want to be guided by his own judgments to this issue, but to follow the conclusions of European experts, including the OSCE Commissioner (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) on National Minorities.

According to Volodymyr Lytvyn, European experts believe that the new law "leads to the separation of Ukraine", de facto, by introducing the second state language, which will lead to the loss of the Ukrainian language status.
