The World Day of Embroidery – the international holiday designed to preserve ancestral traditions of creating and wearing ethnic Ukrainian embroidered apparel – is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of May (weekday). The holiday is a distinctive and independent, it is not linked to any national or religious holiday. On this day, anyone can join the celebration by wearing an embroidered shirt to work, university, school or kindergarten.
Transcarpathian region joined to the celebration too. Embroidered shirts are worn by civil servants:
regional office of the SFS of Ukraine
the Main Office of the National Police in Transcarpathia
Representatives of local government:
Transcarpathian Regional Council
Uzhgorod city council
And, of course, pages of social media have blossomed with "embroidered" selfies with many recognizable faces.
