Embroidered towel unites Ukraine

A special towel is embroidered by Transcarpathian women to the Independence Day of Ukraine. Patterns typical to ethnographic groups of Ukrainian, who live in Transcarpathia will appear at 2-meter long cloth. The event starts on August 5 in Velykyi Bereznyi district. The event ‘Towel Unites Ukraine’ will be held on the celebration of the day of the village of Sil. All comers will be able personally contribute to the embroidery of Lemko, Boyko or Hutsul decorative patterns.

‘First stitches we will make near the river of Uzh and complete embroidering of the Transcarpathian towel in Rakhiv district – said social activist Larysa Alyentyeva – our goal is to unite Ukraine, to show the world all the wealth of national traditions and, of course, to encourage young people to preserve and increase the embroidery in Ukraine’.

‘We picked a good cloth with lace and tassels for the towel. Different techniques will be used on it. We hope that the Transcarpathian women in different villages of the region willingly join to our idea’, – added the activist of women’s movement in Transcarpathia Lyubov Lutsuk.

The embroidered towel is planned to be transferred to the east of Ukraine, as a symbol of state’s unity.
