Since the beginning of 2018, as of October 12, 3,188 cases of measles have been recorded in Transcarpathia. Among the patients, 2,585 are children under the age of 17 (81%) and 603 are adults (19%). According to the head of the Department of Epidemiological Surveillance and Prevention of Infectious Diseases of the State Enterprise "Transcarpathia Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine" Viktoriya Tymchyk, the breakdown of the children’s population by age groups in the epidemic process is as follows:
– children under 1 year old – 13% (336 cases)
– 1 to 4 years old – 38.6% (999 cases)
– 5 to 9 years old – 27.3% (706 cases)
– 10 to 14 years old – 13.8% (358 cases)
– 15 to 17 years old – 7.2% (186 cases)
During the past week, according to operational reports, 39 cases of measles were registered. Children under 17 years old make up 95% (37 cases), adults – 5% (2 cases). According to the operational data, 72% out of 39 patients have not been vaccinated against measles. Cases are registered in Mizhhirya, Tyachiv, Irshava, Mukachevo districts. Monitoring of the epidemic situation in the region continues.
