Yesterday, December 17, officers of the border guard detachment "Huta" called the police. The border guards told that they had been approached by two hunters who reported about an accident during the hunt.
According to the men, around 21:00, on the outskirts of the village of Kamyanytsia, in the forest belt, one of them had accidentally shot a man.
The investigative team, that arrived at the scene, found out the preliminary circumstances of the tragic event. One of the hunters on a hunting observation tower saw something in the sight of his rifle, shot at the target and hit a hunter, with whom he was hunting together. The man died on the spot from injuries.
After that, the men reported the incident to the border guard detachment, the officers of which called the police.
The law enforcement officers, who arrived at the scene, identified the victim and the hunter who had made the shot. The victim was a 76-year-old resident of the city of Uzhgorod, a pensioner, and the shooter was a 45-year-old resident of the village of Mynai in Uzhgorod district. Both men have weapons and hunting permits.
The policemen of Uzhgorod district police department opened a criminal proceeding over the incident under Part 1 of Article 119 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, murder committed due to negligence. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of restraint of liberty for a term of three to five years or imprisonment for the same term.
The weapons was seized from the hunters and sent for examination. At present, the police are going to notify the shooter that he is suspected and deciding on the choice of pre-trial restraint against him. The investigation continues.
