Donor blood in Transcarpathia does not constitute threat to health

The Press Service of the Department of Health refuted the information, which appeared in the media this Monday, about infections of viral hepatitis "B", "C" and syphilis contracted during blood transfusion. They quoted the chief haematologist of the Ministry of Health Vasyl Novak.

"This information is not true and the figures, announced by the chief hematologist of the Ministry of Health Vasyl Novak, referred to the incidence of the aforementioned diseases during examinations of potential blood donors" – the official report states.

The chief physician of the regional blood transfusion station Oleg Shchadey assures that all donated blood is screened for viruses of hepatitis "B", "C", HIV and syphilis. Annually, 80 – 85 thousand examinations are held in the region.

Over the past 10 years, no cases of patients infected through donor blood have been recorded in Transcarpathia.
