Deputies, out! The carve-up in Uzhgorod city council failed thanks to the community (PHOTO)

Uzhgorod residents today managed to protect the city from another deputies’ encroachments.

The community continued to carry out its intention not to allow the discredited city government to squander its property and to "divide" the city at their sole discretion.

Thus, despite the repeated attempts of the mayor and some deputies to push through certain decisions, adjustment of the Master Plan was not considered at the session and nothing was stolen. Land decisions and those concerning the privatization of municipal property were blocked too.

Instead, the deputies were free to adopt several decisions that are not contrary to the interests of Uzhgorod residents – determined honorary citizens of Uzhgorod on the occasion of the Day of the City and the laureats of the honorable award, allocated funds for children with cancer.

Overall, the session was quite dramatic, full of community activity and, obviously, dismay of the deputies. Indeed, Uzhgorod residents have finally learned how to control their government.

By the way, this meeting was one the last ones with current deputies.Citizens hope that, despite the fact that some of them are already candidates, the current deputies will not return to the session hall. In general, Uzhgorod can hope that the quality control of the local government by the community will be consistent and effective.
