The situation with measles was discussed at the meeting of the anti-epidemic committee at the Uzhgorod City Council. Due to the rapid spread of the disease, according to the commission’s decision, all employees of medical and educational institutions must be vaccinated, as they are in contact with a significant number of people at risk. It was also noted that according to Art. 15 of the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of the Population against Infectious Diseases" children who have not been vaccinated can not attend schools, kindergartens, other educational institutions, camps, etc.
Svitlana Oberemko, doctor-epidemiologist of the Uzhgorod city and district branch of the Transcarpathian Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, provided statistics: since November 2017, 637 people have fallen ill in the city, 53.9% of them are children. 8.9% of the total number of infected people were vaccinated, but 40% of them were vaccinated without following proper schedule of vaccinations. 53.3% of the infected were unvaccinated, while the rest – 30.3% – did not have documented evidence of vaccination and were considered as unvaccinated persons.
Despite the outreach, the number of parents’ refusals from vaccination for their children remains high.
Anyone, who has not been vaccinated according to the vaccination schedule, can do it for free in any family outpatient clinic in the city. In addition, schoolchildren can be vaccinated at their schools, the press service of Uzhgorod city council informs.
