Police launched criminal investigation over the explosion, which occurred as a result of shelling in the house of the former head of the Transcarpathian police general Vasyl Vartsaba.
This was reported by the press service of the Transcarpathian police.
"The police launched criminal proceeding over this incident under Part 2 of Art.194 of Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional destruction of or damage to property by explosion). The sanction of the article provides for a punishment in the form imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years" – the Deputy Head of the Transcarpathian regional police – the Head of the Investigation Department, Lieutenant Colonel Mykhailo Khymynets said.
Recall that at half past nine in the evening, on Friday, January 27, Uzhgorod police received a report about an explosion and fire in the building on Koshytska street, which belongs to 62-year-old former head of the Transcarpathian police, now a retiree Vasyl Vartsaba.
The investigative team, the management of the police of the region and the city. Law enforcement officers found out that the fire had started in the roof and the attic of the house because of a shot from a grenade launcher.
It was noted that the owner and his wife were at home at that time, but there were no casualties. The fire was extinguished by rescuers. At the scene, the police found the tube to a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
Currently, police are taking measures to identify the attacker. The operational plan "Siren" was launched in the region.
