Soon the building of Transcarpathian Regional Administrative Court will be equipped with sign plates in Braille.
This way Lviv participants of the public project of the Foundation "Law and Democracy" want to make court buildings more accessible to blind and visually impaired people. According to the project manager Andriy Bury, this summer community activists involved in monitoring the activities of Ukrainian courts and developing recommendations for the reform of the judiciary system conducted a monitoring, during which they checked whether district courts of western Ukraine are equipped with ramps, whether there is a call button on the door, whether there is an office and courtroom on the ground floor.
By all these criteria, Transcarpathian District Court gained 4 points of 5. However, if for wheelchair persons the court building is more or less accessible, visually impaired were clearly fogotten. So the community activists with the financial assistance of American Foundation for Democracy came to Uzhgorod to mark the premises of the District Court. They brought "Braille" sign plate with the name of the institution and hours of work (it should hang at the entrance to the building) and little pointers to guide the blind to offices.
In addition, the community activists want to paint the stairs in the Transcarpathian district court in orange, so that people with bad sight would not be injured by them.
