Christmas tree in the the homes of Uzhgorodians: what to choose from

Today, December 25, winter holidays have begun.  The believers of the western rite celebrate Christmas, and we sincerely congratulate them!

However, the believers of the Eastern rite are only preparing for the holidays. And decorated Christmas tree is an indispensable attribute of them. There are 7 official Christmas tree markets in Uzhgorod – near the "Bilochka", at the New Market (Zankovetska street), near Perechyn bus station, on Zahorska street, at the "Niva" market and in the center – on Koryatovich square, opposite the shopping center "Luxor Plaza". Our correspondent visited some of them to find out how much green beauties cost this year.

The general impression is that the prices for Christmas trees at all sales points are fairly unified. Although, on Koryatovich square, they are a little more expensive – probably because this place is the busiest.

Traditionally, they offer many small fur trees made of separate branches on a wooden stand. The prices range from 50 to 150 UAH.  

But some of them are as much as 550 UAH!

Small real trees, up to 1 meter high, can be purchased for 50-70 UAH. 

Larger ones, 1.20-2 meters high, are up to 100-120 UAH. 

That is, you can easily pick a Christmas tree according to your taste and budget. 

The most expensive tree, which we saw today, about 3,5-4-meter high, costs as much as 700 hryvnias.

This year, the regional forestry administration has disseminated the information that "legal" trees should be marked with corresponding tags. They look like this:

However, during the preparation of this report, we noticed very few such tags on the Christmas trees offered on the markets. But they do exist!

For those, who choose artificial Christmas trees, stores and supermarkets today have a very wide range of plastic trees.

And those Uzhgorod citizens, who wish to contribute to the preservation of wildlife, but do not like plastic trees, can take advantage of the interesting proposal of the regional forestry – to set in the house for the holidays a tree in a pot, which then, after Christmas, can be planted anywhere – in the yard, near a country house, or in the woods.  

We visited such place in Domanyntsi, near the bypass road. The choice is indeed wide, if you have enough money.  Here, for example, are small trees for 200 UAH.

And these are already prepared to be set up in houses. But the price is quite high – 1200 UAH.

And these lush beauties cost as much as 5000 hryvnias!

Also, people can try to take advantage of another interesting proposal – to rent a Christmas tree in a pot. According to the foresters, the cost of such a service starts at 100 hryvnias.
