Chop customs officers seized nearly 134 kg of amber from a citizen of Ukraine, who tried to illegally transport the precious stones into Hungary without permits – informed Victoria Senhetovska, spokeswoman for Chop customs.
The 33-year-old female resident of Transcarpathia arrived at the crossing point "Dzvinkove" at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border in the car "Volkswagen Passat" and deliberately chose a "green corridor". This meant that the woman was not carrying goods subject to declaration and taxation with customs duties.
However, based on the analysis and evaluation of risks and the information received from the State Border Service on transportation of illegal goods across the border by this citizen, the vehicle was taken to the "red corridor" for a more detailed examination.
Thus in the course of customs and border inspection of the car customs officers found in the luggage and the passenger compartment 5 polythene bags with a naturally occurring substance of different shades of brown (in fractions from 5mm to 30mm in diameter) with characteristics of a gemstone – namely, amber (133.6 kg).
For the violation of the order of the simplified customs control a protocol in respect of the citizen of Ukraine was written under Article 471 of CCU.
Currently, relevant experts are evaluating the seized gems.
