211 pieces of silver gift items, hidden from the customs control behind six trim panels in the minivan, were seized by Chop inspectors at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border due to violation of customs regulations.
Last night a commercial vehicle "Mercedes-Benz" driven by a 24-year old citizen of Ukraine, who was returning from Italy, drove in the area of customs control of the "Tisa" checkpoint. When filling out the customs declaration the young man said there were no hidden things in the van.
But when inspectors in the in-depth inspection box disassembled decorative paneling of the vehicle, they found that the structural cavities contain more than two hundred pieces of hidden souvenir items of foreign production. According to our compatriot, the found goods did not belong to him and he did not know about the presence thereof in the car.
Thus, illegal pictures on a wooden base, glass images, various pendants, photo albums and picture frames, decorated with silver coating, figurines of angels of base metal clad with silver, which will be assessed by commodity experts, were removed to the warehouse of the customs. Also, the minibus "Mercedes-Benz", worth 186,000 UAH, which was used by the offender to move concealed goods across the customs border of Ukraine, was placed on the impound lot of the customs.
These actions fall under Article 483, Part 1 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, which provides for fines and confiscation of goods together with the car after the court decision – informed Victoria Senhetovska, spokeswoman of the Chop customs.
