Chop customs dog handlers conducted almost 35,000 inspections

The objects of their attention were more than 22.7 thousand cars, trucks, vans and buses, more than 260 trains, 65 containers, almost 150 aircrafts, 11.8 thousand postal and courier deliveries.

In total, there are 28 canine teams at the department of smuggling and customs violations that carry out search activities at checkpoints across the customs border of Ukraine in the area of Chop ​​customs. Most dogs of Dog Training Department specialize in finding drugs, while others – in finding weapons, ammunition and tobacco products.

Since the beginning of this year, service dogs have found items, that are prohibited or restricted to carry across the customs border, in eleven cases: they have found more than 874 grams of narcotic drug "cannabis", more than one kilogram of "hashish", 84 grams of "cocaine", a little over one kilogram of "amphetamine" and 170 packs of tobacco products.

"Recently, at one of the customs checkpoints, a German shepherd found especially dangerous narcotic, "cocaine", weighing 84.02 grams, and a few days later, at the same checkpoint, a labrador found "hashish" weighing 2.58 grams. That is, the use of natural dog abilities is an effective means of preventing smuggling and customs violations," – officers of smuggling and customs violations department of the Chop customs said.
