Officers of the Chop customs gave the Uzhgorod church objects of worship that had been confiscated by the court.
From now on, 33 icons will be decorating the walls of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord Jesus Christ. The delivery of icons was carried out by the decision of the Interagency council on the export, import and return of cultural property.
The press service noted that two of the delivered icons date from the end of XIX century. These are "Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God" and "Archangel Gabriel", depicted on wooden boards and made with a complex artistic technique.
Over the past 5 years Transcarpathian customs officers have given churches of the region over 120 icons that were seized at the border.
