My camera usually likes to capture the best of Uzhgorod – interesting architecture, good people, unusual situations. But this stuff is different. Even depressing. Unfortunately…
Children, as everyone knows, are our future. The children’s playgrounds are made for them in the city. What does Uzhgorod offer its young citizens?
As it turned out, it is very, very sad.
– Where do you like to go for a walk with your child in the city? – I asked young parents.
The most famous, the most popular and, as it turned out, the most well-maintained playground is on Bohdan Khmelnytsky square, better known as the "Roshen playground near Kazka". Indeed, the rides are varied and well-maintained, the turf is soft, smooth, and safe even in wet weather.
However, this playground, though cozy, is small. And… it looks like it’s the only of its kind in the town. People from all over Uzhgorod can not come here for a walk. Therefore, there should be playgrounds everywhere, in every more or less populated neighborhood.
What do we have in fact? The number of such facilities is quite sufficient. There is something for children in almost every courtyard of high-rise buildings. Thanks primarily… to the elections. With every local election campaign, candidates become active and suddenly remember about young generation. Workers come to the yards, quickly install swings, sandboxes, slides, etc. Then the candidate opens them personally at the solemn ceremony, distributing leaflets, calendars and, at times, food kits in plastic bags with his portrait. Everyone is happy…
But elections are rare. And during the period between them, the playgrounds ruin, the boards rot, the metal rust. And children are left without places to play at.
The photos below are taken in different areas of the city. Initially, I was going to specify the location for each of them. But then I changed my mind. The picture is almost the same everywhere. Just in some places, managers work better, and the playgrounds are more or less well-maintaned, painted, with trash bins. And others do not care…
